The invasion of the Balkans may take place soon, or it may be deferred until after further developments in Italy. From the point of view of the political problems which will face the Allies when they land there, the date is a matter of indifference. Now or later the crux of the Balkan situation lies in the amount of active support which the Allied cause can obtain from the Balkan population. There may be some circles in which the feelings and opinions of the Balkan people are of no great importance. The only consideration for them is that the Allies succeed in marshaling sufficient shipping, men and air superiority to expedite their military operations.
