The article discusses Soviet economy. A correct appraisal of the Soviet economic system and its potentialities is not easy. The traditions revolt against acknowledging its tremendous dynamism, success in the economic field could surely not accrue to a system so cruel and despotic; it must be reserved for free private enterprise and the rule of law. That economic success might not in itself be sufficient proof of moral excellence is too disturbing a thought. Attempts are continually being made to demonstrate the failure of Bolshevik economics by pointing out that consumption standards have not been raised, and have even been lowered, under the regime.
