This article focuses on the play "The Skin of Our Teeth," by Thornton Wilder. Words and rhythms in "Finnegans Wake" by James Joyce have a different kind of value from their value in ordinary books. They do not merely describe, they represent, the characters and the elements of the plot and any real addict of "Finnegans Wake" recognizes in Wilder's play cadences and words to which Joyce has given a life of their own. The general indebtedness to Joyce in the conception and plan of the play is as plain as anything of the kind can be.
