The article discusses about the painting exhibition at the museum of modern art. The fall season opened at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, with shows sculptures made by artist David Smith and paintings. Smith works more like a blacksmith than like the traditional a sculptor, building his pieces out of metal bars and plates which he forges into shape or welds together. The type of composition he uses is one we are already familiar with in the work of Swiss sculptor Alberto Giacometti and others. The sculpture is designed as a frame, a cage, a skeleton, an interlacing of struts rather than as a continuous dosed surface.
