The article discusses economic conditions and its various aspects in the U.S. The economy is being affected by serious unemployment in Detroit and environs. Although national employment is increasing as a result of anti-inflationary moves by the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, but a business downturn is being expected because of assumptions of current economic behavior and its consequences. The key assumption is the concept of New Economy, result of a combination of the institutional reforms and vast increase in purchasing power since 1941. But despite of all these, the fiscal and monetary policies of the U.S. federal government is expected to stabilize the economy and presents a hopeful picture.
