Ceylon's new Prime Minister, has stated his national policy very candidly. He is determined to make Singalese the official language instead of English, to nationalize the foreign-owned plantations, banks and insurance companies. He is abolishing any links with Great Britain which might imply that Ceylon belongs, however loosely, to the Western power bloc. This last aim has immediate strategic importance, for it means ending the 1947 defense agreement which gives Great Britain naval and air bases in Ceylon.
