The 11th session of the Economic Commission for Europe was particularly well-prepared and well-timed. Secretary General Gunnar Myrdal had made a preliminary exploratory swing through Moscow, London, Paris and other capitals before the meetings opened. The last phase of the session brought the question of East-West trade—ECE's main preoccupation these days—into world headlines. Before the meetings ended, even those delegates who in the past were inclined to regard every new Soviet move with profound mistrust were beginning to see the need for a more flexible approach to East-West relations.
