McCarthy in Texas: Fishing for Goldfish

Senator Joe McCarthy has been doing some fishing for goldfish in Texas but so far seems to have caught only a few minnows. While it has been rumored that McCarthy was able to tap conservative and reactionary Texas oil men for big money, the facts which have come to light indicate that his take, from the Texas oil man's political-financial point of view, has been chicken feed. McCarthy has made six trips to Texas in the 1952, some of them quiet, others well advertised. Money-wise Texas politicians are inclined to view McCarthy's contacts with rich Texans as still in the build-up stage.
