Under the able chairmanship of the Belgian, Raymond Scheyven, the sixteenth session of the U.N. Economic and Social Council has been handling a most varied list of subjects. With an excitement created by events in East Germany, the fall of Beria and the proposal of a Big Four foreign ministers meeting, it is inevitable that the political aspect of the session should overshadow the economic. It provides a mirror of the entire world situation, with the Westerners scrutinizing each word and gesture of the Soviet delegates for clues and excitement created by events in East Germany, the fall of Beria and the proposal of a Big Four foreign ministers meeting.
