Dream of Empire

This article presents the author's views on Morocco a unique part of the Arab world and Tunisia. Geographically, the two countries have much in common; and yet they are extraordinarily different. The Tunisians are mild, gentle, "Southern" and "Mediterranean" in temperament, with a large Westernized elite; Morocco is a land of strong and hard men, with violent political passions and with sharp hatreds, a land full of human dynamite. The Tunisian is subtle and reasonable; the Moroccan tends to be reckless, arrogant and to "talk big."
