The U.S. Army was right in refusing to lend equipment and advice to Robert Aldrich for the motion picture "Attack!," the movie version of Norman Brooks' book "Fragile Fox." There were occasions in World War II, when American combat officers proved themselves incompetent, venal, cowardly and hysterical, but army public relations could scarcely be expected to help advertise its misfits. In this case, the army has held aloof from a work of originality or important public information. The film, for all its inner-directed bitterness, is built to a routine combat film pattern and plows up nothing new on the subject.
