February 29, 1956 is the day U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower will reveal whether he will accept renomination. Normally only one or two employees would be on hand in a brokerage office in a suburban college town in the San Francisco Bay Area. This morning to catch the opening of the New York Stock Exchange there are already eight men facing the blackboard in front of the room. Their eyes are on the magnified projection of the moving ticker tape. Eisenhower declared that he will accept renomination, a decision that was appreciated by the brokers.
