The article discusses Anniversary celebrations in Indonesia. It is little wonder that journalists don't like I Customs officials treat them casually, hotel keepers have no room, and taxi drivers fleece them. The place is hot. The oases of coolness and cocktails are few and far between. The oases are the journalist's easiest source of news. It is from the isolated, disprivileged, envied, unhappy white residents of Jakarta that he gets what the world press publishes. This fact is not unimportant in evaluating reports of Indonesia's progress since it proclaimed its independence on August 17, 1945.
