The articles discusses the backdrop of the Louisiana violence and disorder. Cows graze in the yard of the community hall in Elizabeth, Louisiana, a sleepy little company town of about a thousand people. You couldn't ask for a quieter place to negotiate a union contract. But while the negotiators in the hail have hardly raised their voices the town outside has been rocked by dynamite explosions and shotgun blasts. Violence now burst out Homes and cars belonging to both strikers and scabs were shot into and set on fire. A gas line supplying fuel to the plant was blown up several times, and a spur of the Santa Fe Railroad leading into the mill was dynamited.
