The article focuses on the general elections in Greece on November 16, 1952 in which Marshall Alexander Papagos sharply defeated Premier Nicholas Plastiras. Alexander Papagos was referred as the American candidate. The author believes that Greece is a mirror in which the foreign policy of the U.S. appears to the world, with its naked emphasis on military might and its hypocritical slogans about defending democracy. The author attributes it to Cold War, struggle with the Soviet Union. The economy of Greece has been brought to the verge of collapse not merely by the armament burden but by the strangling of foreign trade. The cold war has cut Greece off from its traditional markets in Central and Eastern Europe, and American restrictions have blocked its exports to the United States.
