Dangerous Thoughts: Zone of Silence

The article focuses on the prohibition of the right to expression and dictatorial orders by the government agencies in the U.S. where such a restriction has been imposed that no sound from outside can penetrate. This is a different world entirely detached from the rest of the world. During the last three years millions of Americans have been drifting into a Zone of Silence: American radio, where ideas are choked off, voices throttled and artists blacklisted. There have been, of course, the headline cases, such as NBC's abrupt banning of Eleanor Roosevelt's TV show which was to have included Paul Robeson. Behind the scenes this sort of cringing is done a dozen times a week without leaking into the news.
