Back to the Music Itself

This article focuses on the book "The Listener's Musical Companion," by B.H. Haggin. The title of Haggin's new book is apt. Its valuable commentary will accompany the listener wherever he wants to go in the world of music. But the chapters on musical forms and procedures and to some extent the entire book, are designed for "someone who has just begun to be interested in music." First there is the candor and power of the prose itself, the voice of a music critic who can actually think. This is rare in the field.
