D. R. Fitzpatrick has been producing six or seven cartoons a week for the St. Louis "Post-Dispatch" for forty years. That should give the mathematical-minded something to think about. Out of this prolific output, 311 cartoons have been collected in the book "As I Saw it," for which Joseph Pulitzer has written a foreword, Thomas B. Sherman a biographical introduction, and the cartoonist himself a running commentary on his work. As one way of reviewing the book, the journal "The Nation" is reproducing a few samples of its contents.
