This article discusses the profile of a Southern Negro leader in the U.S. A Negro leader is a new kind of political leader, nourished on the U.S. Supreme Court decisions and brought to power by the death of the white primary. Since his headquarters are in a county seat of 30,000 in which the Negro registration constitutes two-fifths of the Democratic total, his position with the sheriff and other local officials is fairly secure. The Negro leader is able to obtain various concessions of importance to the Negro community like relief from policy brutality, school repairs, more street lights, improved pavements and playgrounds.
