The article presents information on the meaning of McCarthyism. What is this McCarthyism? According to the author, it seems the use of the platform of office to transform a widely existing emotion of fear and hostility against one group of persons into hatred and distrust of other persons and groups by falsification and distortion of fads. The use of the public-address system of legislative office has three special aspects, first, the immunity of the speaker from legal accountability; second, his authority as a lawmaker over his victims, third, his authority as a paymaster of his victims when they are public employees, as most of McCarthy's victims are.
