In the General Assembly conference, the fear of China entering the fight, together with the desire to make sure of a strong and independent commission, that moved certain delegations to delay action on the eight-power resolution on Korea, prolonging the discussion into Monday. Many delegates seemed well aware that it was one thing to fight in South Korean territory and another to oppose the North Koreans on their own soil, defending their villages and homes. The United Nations has now the chance to insist upon a policy in Korea which will fully justify its course of action in that country. The eight-power proposal calling for the immediate appointment of a new, strong U.N. commission for Korea could provide the basis for such a policy.
