According to the author, good medical care should be made, more widely available to all the people of the U.S. To bring that means solving two problems. One problem is financial. The other problem is professional. The trouble with the present medical system is not merely that the costs of a severe sickness may ruin anybody who hasn't a Park Avenue income. For every person who is hit by the bills of a "catastrophic illness," there are thousands of people who do not seek the medical care they need because they fear its cost. What people need is not merely some medical care paid for by insurance, but comprehensive care, preventive and curative, supplied by the professional organized teamwork of doctors, aided by modern equipment and technical personnel such as are found in hospitals.
