Few weeks ago the Republicans in the North Central states of Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Indiana were entirely confident of winning for Governor Thomas E. Dewey. In each of these states the situation has now changed, though Indiana must still be rated safe for Dewey, barring a sustained last-minute U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt drive. The pre-election picture is almost identical in the three states, the farmers and small towns are for Dewey, and the industrial centers are for U.S. President. The new hope for U.S. President arises primarily from organized labor's belated success in its registration campaign. For this and other reasons, Republican masterminds have developed the jitters.
