The Roman Catholic missionaries were the first to appreciate the reserve, personal simplicity and ethical rectitude which Indians expect of holy men. Despite the recent troubles arising from Catholic missionary work in Assam and other Northeastern states, the Roman emissaries are still the only ones who try to make their behavior conform in considerable measure to the spirit of the Indian tradition. Billy Graham, a religious man came to India and gave a presentation on Roman emissaries. In response to a question by Graham at least a dozen in the audience said they had come more than 200 miles to hear him. A couple of hundred said they had traveled at least a hundred miles. The whole affair was marvelously organized by the sponsoring committee.
