This article provides information about the book "Weizsaecker: Good German vs. Good European," by H. Stuart Hughes. This book is a translation of the memoirs of Baron von Weizsacker, state secretary of the German Foreign Office from 1938 to 1943. Both from a literary standpoint and from the standpoint of physical presentation, Weizsacker's memoirs are disappointing. They are poorly organized, ill-balanced, episodic, and their style is graceless and frequently ambiguous. To what extent these latter difficulties stem from the original or the translation it is impossible to tell, since neither translator nor publisher has been fit to add to the memoirs themselves even a paragraph of introduction or explanation.
