All the countries of the world are now looking afresh at their resources of natural energy. Every country is asking how it will he affected by the coming of nuclear energy, which is now imminent. And every country hopes to find in this a store of riches which will dwarf the wealth that hitherto has grown from coal and from oil. Consider briefly the energy resources of the world in fossil fuels and their rate of use. Take as a unit all the oil and natural gas that have been burned since petroleum was found in Pennsylvania a hundred years ago. The total of coal burned through the past is about four times as great, in energy content, as this total.
