This article presents information on the efforts being made in Italy to unify the minority center political parties into a powerful secular third force. The creation of a third force between the communist left and the Demo-Christian right has long been the ambition of Italian moderates. A public appeal to this effect was made by Ugo La Malfa, Minister of Foreign Trade in Italy. La Malfa was greatly dissatisfied with the influence of the Roman Catholic church in Italian affairs. La Malfa called for an agreement among the democratic secular parties, presumably excluding the Christian democrats.
