The article focuses on U.S. policies related to the motion picture industry. Winding up a four-year investigation of communism in the film industry, the House Sub-committee on Un-American Activities departed from Hollywood in the manner of carefree picnickers. The committee was in the mood to put on a good show before the television cameras, since it had been able to force the capitulation of civil rights and economic freedom in the motion-picture industry. The seven days of testimony only pointed up the fact that economic sanctions are more effective than jail sentences.
