The article focuses on mergers of broadcasting companies in the U.S. On July 27 the stockholders of United Paramount Theaters Inc., and of the American Broadcasting Company voted to amalgamate the two companies. The amalgamation is subject to the approval of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), which is charged with assigning radio frequencies in the public interest. In view of the importance of the concentration-of-ownership issue and the large amount of money involved, the FCC will hold a public hearing.
