To measure the length of the road traveled this week in the United Nations toward the discovery of a solution to the tormenting problem of Korea, one has only to remember where the Political Committee stood on Monday and where it finished on Saturday. The week opened with the announcement by the chief American delegate, Warren Austin, that since China had twice rejected a cease-fire, the only conclusion to draw was that it did not want one, and consequently the United Nations should take the next logical step and formally charge Communist China with aggression. After that further measures could be considered like withdrawal of recognition by members having diplomatic relations with Chinese premier Mao Tse-Tung, possibly even the imposition of sanctions if enough delegates could be induced to go so far.
