Dag Hammerskjold, Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), and the United States, Great Britain and France have agreed on a common policy. It is to keep the UN police force in Egypt until negotiations are under way for the settlement of Arab-Israeli relations and of the Suez Canal's future. The prospect for solving the Suez conflict is incomparably better than for a lasting accommodation between Israel and its neighbors. The U.S. Administration under President Dwight D. Eisenhower, intends at a suitable moment to present a plan for Arab-Israeli agreement. State Department officials say it will be on the familiar pattern.
