This article focuses on the book "Marianne Thornton," by E.M. Forster. In this biography of his great-aunt, Marianne Thornton and her numerous brothers and sisters, admirers of E.M. Forster's novels should find considerable entertainment in recognizing a wych-elm here, a house there, in noting the first appearance of his beloved Cambridge. They will not find characters to identify so surely. On the other hand, there is a plenitude of those characteristics necessary to a nation of great shopkeepers and a rather new milieu of nineteenth-century travels and enthusiasms.
