Midwest Report: The Prairie Farmer Revolts

A strong Democratic trend is running in the Midwest farm belt. The prairie states of the U.S., for the most part, are a Democratic desert so far as Congressional, state, and local candidates are concerned, although they occasionally vote Democratic in a Presidential election. Granting at least the normal mid-term swing against the party in power among town voters, farm votes are most likely to tip the balance in favor of Democratic candidates in the eastern half of the Midwest bread basket. The intransigent stand of the Republican national administration against the immediate and basic interests of agriculture appears to be forcing a political realignment in the prairie states.
