The article analyzes the book "It's Me, O Lord. The Autobiography of Rockwell Kent." At the age of 73 years, Kent presents his self-portrait. Into those seventy-three years the well-known American engraver, lithographer, painter, illustrator, writer, lecturer has crowded many other occupations working as a lobster fisherman and carpenter. The autobiography is probably the most difficult literary form. It may be a fabricated facade, or it may be a revelation spoken as if in a dream. The latter kind has to be searched for names, dates, places, facts and even sometimes for feelings and thoughts. In a way Kent's is reminiscent of Gertrude Stein's. The title seems to bear no relation to the subject portrayed.
