This article presents information on the book "A Child of the Century," by Ben Hecht. The fact that Ben Hecht's autobiography is whopping and gorgeous has been broadcast widely. The subject makes no difference to Ben Hecht. Love or money, heroism or skulduggery, schmalz or wisdom, it's all warm and breathing to him and he makes it jump up into the air to kiss you or bite you. Somewhere in his book he writes that trying to find out about the world from following it in newspapers is like trying to tell time by following the second hand on a-clock.
