The article presents an estimate of the success of North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in meeting its objectives and forecast its future role. North Atlantic Treaty was signed in Washington, DC on April 4, 1949. The object behind the North Atlantic Treaty was to give the countries of Western Europe a sense of security by strengthening their defenses and putting the U.S. productive power behind them. The establishment of NATO led to the halt of Soviet expansion in Europe. Thus NATO has been come to be regarded as bulwark of peace.
