The article focuses an impressive upsurge of writings by whites from Africa. The bulk of white writing comes from the southern tip of the continent, from South Africa and Rhodesia, where the white population is concentrated. Nearly all the major South African writers are involved to some extent in the racial conflict. In her latest novel "A World of Strangers," Nadine Gordimer is wholly concerned with the mutual impact of white and black, as seen through the eyes of a young Englishman who living in both worlds in Johannesburg, South Africa. According to the author, it is probably the most perceptive study ever written about African race relations and in many ways it represents the summit of white achievements in the literary exploration of Africa.
