When one reconstructs India's history it develops that Great Britain quelled a near-rebellion during the last five months of 1942. Arson, murder and serious property damage in strategic war areas were met with harsh repressive measures, including machine-gunning by military planes. It is indisputable that the battle could have been avoided. Even Indian nationalist leader Mahatma Gandhi did not want the civil-disobedience movement which began on August 9, 1942. Sobered by their experiences since 1942, Gandhi is ready to make another attempt at an adjustment of rival British and Indian interests. In the proposal Gandhi offers to form an Indian nationalist government with the Moslem League. Assuming Hindu-Moslem collaboration within such a government during the war, the Moslem population of India can establish its own Moslem state.
