This article presents information on a convention of the Democrats held in Chicago, Illinois in July 1944. In sum the convention showed that Democratic Old Guard is now in a position to gain control of the party. It showed that the liberal elements in the organization are sadly demoralized and it showed that only labor, acting through Congress of Industrial Organizations Political Action Committee, has had enough strength and political acumen to put up an effective if losing fight. The demoralization of the liberal elements in the party was clearly demonstrated by the letters of U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt and by various events at Chicago.
