This article presents information on political conditions in the world in July 1944. To First Ukrainian Army fell the honor of being the first to drive the Germans back across the line from which they invaded the Soviet Union a little more than three years ago. At Alamein, the infantry-tank attack was preceded by an intense artillery barrage, augmented by what was probably the heaviest aerial bombardment ever directed against an army in the field. The United Nations lived up to their name at Bretton Woods, and provided a happy augury for the future in the successful conclusion of the world monetary and financial conference.
