A U.S. Congressman strivings for peace is hard to get across to his constituents and easy for his opponent to distort. The article analyzes why the activities of the author who is a Congressman led his opponent to say that the author defeated himself. His opponent was Republican Dr. Edwin C. Durno of Medford. Durno called the author an appeaser because he attended two world law conferences and three disarmament meetings in Europe. This kind of campaign was successful because foreign-policy issues are complex and remote from the experience of the average voter. Emotions are easily aroused when one's country and personal security are involved.
