The article presents information on the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO). Although still a long way from its ultimate goal, the AFL-CIO has won the first round in one of the most rugged fights ever taken on by organized labor: unionizing the, exploited and almost forgotten farm worker. For decades, the history of farm-labor organizing has been one of isolated unions struggling vainly to pierce the defenses of the unified, solidly entrenched farm interest. Now, however, the whole labor movement is behind the organizing drive and California growers are facing what they melodramatically term "a crisis."
