The article presents information about the fourth summer session of the Salzburg Seminar. The Seminar was founded in 1947 by three Harvard students who, in spite of every warning that the idea was totally impracticable, succeeded in renting a site, organizing and transporting a library of Americana, raising funds without an assured faculty, and raising a faculty without assured funds. Now, after four years, the Seminar has grown into a stable organization, has augmented its summer offerings with a series of winter programs, and without paying faculty salaries has brought to Europe a roster of teachers that any college administrator would turn handsprings to get.
