The article focuses on a campaign against the national health insurance, waged by the American Medical Association and is now reaching a climax, with ads in 11,000 daily and weekly newspapers and 30 magazines and on 1,200 radio stations. The Health Insurance Plan (HIP) of New York City is a non-profit organization. The plan operates through thirty medical groups distributed over the city. The premiums of HIP are higher than many can afford and employees of small firms and the self-employed are effectively barred, since members must be taken in sizable groups in order to avoid overloading the lists with individuals who are frequently ill.
