This article presents information on social conditions in Africa during 1950. Industrial, social, and political changes are taking place more rapidly in some parts of Africa than in others, but their effect is felt throughout the continent. It is toward Africa that the industrial and financial leaders of all countries are turning their eyes today. In French Equatorial Africa the tempo of exploitation has been speeded up tremendously. France and the other colonial powers are making every effort to compensate for the colonies and spheres of economic influence they have lost in the Near and Far East by developing their African possessions.
