This article focuses on the decision of a U.S. court case involving a member of Communist Party, Harry Renton Bridges in San Francisco, California. The jury in the Bridges case announced that they had found the defendant, Harry Renton Bridges, guilty of perjury, along with his codefendants. The jury was congratulated by Judge George Harris on having "found the truth shimmering like gold in the crucible of this trial," and the latest chapter in the fifteen-year-old Bridges case was brought to a dose. In the context of this sordid chapter, however, the judge's remark had the quality of a bad April Fool's joke.
