This article focuses on the political condition of Wisconsin-based U.S. Senator Joe McCarthy. For the first time since McCarthy began his attacks on the State Department, many leaders of the U.S. Republican Party may be harboring serious doubts about the aid and comfort they gave to the Senator. Senator Owen Lattimore was, however quite a different witness from those who had previously appeared before the Senate foreign relations subcommittee to deny the taint of Communist sympathies.
