While behind closed doors and drawn blinds the automobile industry has been sweating out the 1958 models which are now bursting out in page after page of dazzling full color, mysterious labors in political engineering and styling have gotten a two-year jump on Detroit, Michigan with the unveiling of U.S. Vice President Richard Nixon, not for 1958, not for 1959, but for 1960 Presidential election. The advertising from Washington and California has not been one whit, less strident, nor for that matter less colorful, than that from the auto city, although in one case it is paid, at page rates, and in the other it is free, at column length.
