Men and Myth in Israel

This article presents information on the book "Bridgehead, the Drama of Israel," by Waldo Frank. Waldo Frank was commissioned by a group of Spanish-American newspapers to go to Israel and write a series of articles on how the Jews, after nearly 2,000 years, have returned as Israelis to the twice-promised land. Frank had seen the Jews in Palestine thirty years before in the early years of the Mandate, when the diaspora was being reversed and thousands of Jews from eastern Europe were flocking to the National Home. From this book, the reader will get a certain amount of enlightenment, but not very much reassurance. Frank is such an experienced observer and so skilled a writer that he can bring before the reader's eye and mind very vividly the scenes which he actually saw and the conversations which he had with Jew and Arab up and down the land.
