The article presents editorials on various topics for the April 1957 issue of the periodical, The Nation. The House Committee on un-American Activities, which has cited a good many citizens for contempt, now stands convicted of contemptuous conduct; It is unfortunate that American- Philippine friendship is now threatened with disruption. The trouble comes from the ten-year-old pact under which the U.S. got some thirty-two military bases in the Philippines. The government and people want to know why the U.S. insisted on ninety-nine-year tenancy for its bases in the Philippines, while U.S. was content with a ten-year lease for Spanish bases.
